The Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, lauded by the St. Paul Pioneer Press as “...a jewel in the state’s cultural crown.” is dedicated to presenting superb and poignant chamber music events featuring the most distinguished guest artists performing together with Minnesota’s finest musicians.  In addition to subscription concerts, the Society presents numerous outreach concerts, workshops  and master classes by all visiting guest artists during the season. Such guests include violinists Robert Mann, Joseph Silverstein, Arnold Steinhardt; violists Cynthia Phelps, Samuel Rhodes; cellists Timothy Eddy, Gary Hofmann, Joel Krosnick, Yo-Yo Ma, pianists Leon Fleisher, Gilbert Kalish; clarinetists Charles Neidich, David Shifrin, composers George Crumb, Andrew Imbrie, Gunther Schuller, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Michio Mamiya, Chen Yi; jazz saxophonist Joe Lovano and many others.

The CMSM has also appeared nationally in Boston, Boulder, San Francisco and on the college campuses of Harvard, MIT, Skidmore, Davies, Berkeley, Santa Cruz, Carleton, Wisconsin and others. In addition, each August, the CMSM presents the Northern Lights Chamber Music Institute in Ely, MN as the main arm of its educational mission.

Founded in 1992 by violinist Young-Nam Kim as the Artistic Director with its core ensemble consisting of his esteemed colleagues of the region, the Society takes humble pride in striving to preserve the noble spirit of a similar society that Mr. Kim’s mentor Louis Krasner with Dimitri Mitropoulos created a half a century ago in Minneapolis. The CMSM, just as then, is devoted to the highest musical integrity and in that ethos presents many new works and world premieres, along with the master works of the past.

The Society proudly begins its 16th season on October 28, 2007.
